Giant Snapping Turtle Found Roaming Around in Baltimore City

Baltimore is no stranger to quirky things, and add another item to that list.

The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) shared to their Facebook page that they had captured a huge snapping turtle that was roaming the city and ended up in a gutter when it should have been in hibernation.

Here's what they had to say:

How did this snapping turtle friend end up roaming around Baltimore City?!
When we say BARCS is an open-admission animal shelter that takes in all animals, we mean it! Our new turtle friend was found in a gutter in the city when he should have been hibernating. Now, he's safe from the elements and will get the care he needs.
No, this big guy isn't available for adoption--he'll be transferred to a partner rescue organization that specializes in wildlife care. We hope he'll be released back into the wild shortly!

The turtle was discovered near Cherry Hill Park in south Baltimore Monday morning. We hope this buddy finds a new safe place to live!
