Costco Warns Of Coupon Hoax

Big-Box Retailer Costco To Announce First Quarter Earnings

ISSAQUAH, WA —Costco is warning shoppers that a 75-dollar coupon circulating on social media is fake.

The coupon promises members a 75-dollar discount, but the company says it's a scam and is in no way affiliated with the wholesale warehouse chain.

The company took to Facebook to inform customers of the online scam in a post saying, “Despite several posts out there, Costco is NOT giving away $75 coupons. While we love our fans and our members, this offer is a SCAM, and in no way affiliated with Costco. Thanks to our fans for letting us know about this recurring hoax!”

The scam prompts Facebook users to click on a link that leads to an unaffiliated website where people are asked to give some personal information.

One customer, Nora Jean, responded to Costco’s announcement joking, “I knew it was a scam, as Costco would not say to celebrate "it's" anniversary. correct would be "its", as in possession.”

A similar scam popped up around this time last year.

“It is an unfortunate fact of the Internet that at any given time there are numerous illegitimate pop-up ads, surveys, websites, emails, social media posts and advertisements that purport to be from or authorized by Costco,” the company said on their website.
