NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Reentering the workforce can be a challenge. But companies like Johnson & Johnson have created re-entry programs like their “Re-Ignite" program. Liz Marcus is its director, and she says education can be a big part of re-starting work life.

She says, "Take some time to dust off your skills and take a course, whether it's an online free course that is out there, or a course at a local community college. Definitely take that opportunity to either try something new or refresh your skills."

Another suggestion is to mention to friends that you're interested in going back to work.

Marcus says networking is critical to rejoining the workforce, "I would suggest that potential returners start sharing with their network that their thinking about coming back to the workforce. Tell your friends on the soccer field or at the swim meet that you're thinking about coming back to work; reconnect with some of your old colleagues."

Johnson and Johnson's Re-Ignite program is mostly designed to provide a path to employment in science, technology, engineering and math.
