It turns out the green dress that made Jennifer Lopez a household name, was also the inspiration for Google Images.

According to the tech giant, Google Images was inspired by the public’s interest in seeing the iconic green Versace dress Jennifer Lopez wore to the Grammy’s in 2000.

Mouths dropped and tongues wagged when Lopez took to the red carpet in a dress with a neckline cut down to her navel and dangerously secured with the help of fashion tape.

But Google’s team paid attention for another reason; they noticed users were having a hard time finding the image online, despite it being one of the most popular search queries the site had ever seen up to that point.

Former CEO Eric Schmidt wrote in 2015 about the crazy number of queries, but users, “had no sure-fire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: JLo wearing that dress.” It was then that he says Google Image Search was born.

Google and JLo celebrated the anniversary of that moment with designer Donatella Versace, who recreated the dress for a runway show during Milan Fashion Week. The show once again caught fashion critics attention, but this time for google’s new tech incorporated into the runway space including their new voice-activated AI helper, Google Assistant.
