DHS Seeks Proposals for Counterterrorism Center

US-CYBER-DHS

An initiative to stand up a terrorism prevention center is looking for colleges and universities around the country to be involved and share ideas on how to address future counterterrorism challenges.

The newly announced cooperative agreement from the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate would provide $35 million for a new DHS Center of Excellence for Terrorism Prevention and Counterterrorism Research. Accredited U.S. colleges and universities may submit their proposals as the center lead or as an individual partner to work with the lead institution to support the center.

The center will research and develop solutions to support DHS counterterrorism operations, including countering the radicalization. The center will also educate on how to better identify and protect the U.S. from terrorist threats.

“By partnering with universities, S&T delivers practical results by developing multidisciplinary, customer-driven solutions while training the next generation of homeland security experts,” said William Bryan, senior official performing the duties of the undersecretary for science and technology, in a release. “Once awarded, this COE will leverage emerging technologies and analytic techniques to provide innovative solutions for preventing and countering terrorism.”

Proposals are due Sept. 6, 2019.
