A union has filed an unfair labor practice charge saying the Defense Department failed to consult it over a planned transfer of over 1,200 IT employees.
The American Federation of Government said May 28 the Pentagon didn’t notify the union or seek its input about plans to migrate IT workers from the Defense Contract Management Agency to the Defense Information Services Agency. AFGE filed a complaint with the Federal Labor Relations Authority on May 20.
The charge says AFGE’s bargaining councils found out about the planned transfer of DCMA employees to DISA on April 12. The union then learned of the more sweeping IT consolidation plan through discussions with DCMA management and news articles.
“The changes DoD is proposing would affect tens of thousands of employees, but the department has made no attempt to communicate with these workers or get their input into these plans,” AFGE Defense Conference Chair Don Hale said in a release. “Employees deserve a seat at the table when decisions are made that affect their jobs, and we will keep fighting to make sure that happens.”
