The House Homeland Security Committee has cleared legislation that aims to empower cyber incident response teams at the Department of Homeland Security to advance the agency’s mission to safeguard U.S. computer networks and critical infrastructure.
The Cyber Incident Response Teams Act was introduced Feb. 13 by Reps. Michael T. McCaul, R-Texas, Jim Langevin, D-R.I., John Katko, D-N.Y., Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Md., and John Ratcliffe, R-Texas. It directs cyber incident response teams to help government and industry entities with cyberattack response and recovery.
These “cyber first responders” provide “a coordinated, strong response that keeps our digital networks resilient and secure,” McCaul said, adding how the legislation will ensure DHS can promote collaboration between the private and public sectors.
