DARPA to Gather Electronics Pros to Talk Microelectronics R&D Efforts

The Pentagon agency responsible for developing emerging technologies for military use is convening electronics innovators this summer to share input into future research directions.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s second ERI Summit will be held in Detroit, Michigan, on July 15-17, and will gather the electronics community to share their vision for the future, review technical progress and provide ideas into future research.

DARPA’s Electronics Resurgence Initiative kicked off in June 2017 and seeks to propel the development of a specialized, safe and automated electronics industry. The effort promotes collaboration among the commercial electronics sector, defense industrial base and university researchers.

Speakers at this year’s event include Lisa Su, president and CEO of AMD; Steve Mollenkopf, CEO of Qualcomm; Thomas Caulfield, CEO of GlobalFoundries; John Kelly III, executive vice president at IBM; and Bill Vass, vice president of technology at Amazon Web Services.
