Data Shows Virginia Tax Payers Receive The Most In Federal Spending

HowMuch.Net conducted a study to find out what the ratio's are per state when it comes to Federal Spending and Federal taxes paid. The financial publication broke down the original report done by SUNY Rockefeller Institute of Government.

When it comes to receiving more money than what they're spending in Federal taxes, Virginia receives the most when it comes to Federal spending. The commonwealth takes in over $20,000 in Federal Spending, while only shelling out $10,571. That means the state is bringing in over $10,000 per capita. The study does state that most of those payments are due to the fact that a lot of federal employees live in Virginia.

They also go on to conclude that the imbalance of Spending vs. Receiving may be the cause of the national debt.

"40 out of 50 states are getting more, sometimes a lot more, from the federal government than they’re paying in taxes. There’s a net negative balance of payments across the country. That’s why the federal government is running a massive deficit of around $1 trillion this year."
